2020 has seen a lot of dang clouds, but there are always silver linings to be found.
I managed to release two works this year, and both The Weirdos: Volume I and Theia are official contenders in the 2020 Minnesota Book Awards.
The Weirdos is a graphic novel about a collection of people with problems who have potential. More than just superhero origin stories, they deal with honest topics like alcoholism, depression, cancer and mental health issues; not content to explore the darkness, the series offers humor and hope through the idea of connection.
Theia is about a silver Boston Terrier who just wants to go outside. Locked in a shelter and surrounded by a gang of misfit animals she has no desire in getting to know, Theia only dreams and wishes of escape. The novella explores why we run away, and is informed by my experiences, especially in 2020.
Look, I’m not going to win anything. It truly is an honor, and it gives me so much personal joy when a person just reads one of my things. But win, lose, or draw — I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish.
